How far can you actually fly in Kyrgyzstan?
Publicly registered best flights are 110–120 km over the last two seasons, mostly from Chon-Tash and Too-Ashuu in June and July. Trip reports talk about 250 km being possible; nobody has registered it.
In detail
Two different numbers get quoted about Kyrgyzstan and they deserve to be kept apart.
What is claimed. Specialist press has described 100 to 200 km as realistic for strong pilots along the 3,000–4,000 m ranges, and a visiting pilot's account put 250 km as possible. Cloudbase over the Suusamyr plateau is reported around 5,000 m, well above anything in the Alps.
What is on the record. The public flight database tells a narrower and more useful story. Across the 2025 and 2026 seasons the best flights registered in the country sit at 110–120 km:
- 119.21 km, 5 h 27, Too-Ashuu, 16 July 2026
- 116.43 km and 116.14 km, Too-Ashuu, same week
- 110.13 km, 6 h 21, Chon-Tash, 17 July 2026 — the highest-scoring flight of the 2026 season
- 104 km and 100 km, Chon-Tash, early September 2025
So: a strong pilot on a good day is flying a hundred kilometres here, not two hundred and fifty. That is still a big day by most standards, and the honest version is worth more to you than the brochure version.
Where. Almost all of it from Chon-Tash, 45 minutes from Bishkek, and Too-Ashuu on the pass. Suusamyr is talked about more than it is flown, at least by anyone who registers flights.
When. Mid-June to mid-July for the big distances, with a second window in early September.
