How long is the flight actually?
10–20 minutes in Karakol, 15–25 from the 3,040 m launch, 5–15 at Chon-Tash near Bishkek. Everything else in the two hours is driving, waiting and packing.
In detail
Airborne time is the only number worth comparing between operators, and the one most of them are vague about. Ours: Karakol standard 10 to 20 minutes, Karakol high-altitude 15 to 25, Chon-Tash near Bishkek 5 to 15. The long thermal flight, when it opens, is 30 to 60.
The spread inside each range is the air, not the price — in lifting conditions a pilot stays up, in sinking air the flight is a glide down and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
The total booking is about two hours door to door because of the drive up, the wait for the right cycle, and packing the wing afterwards. If somebody quotes you a flight without separating airtime from total time, assume the airtime is at the bottom of the range.
